A front lip is a low extension attached to the bottom of the front bumper. It lowers the car's visual stance, sharpens the front end and, depending on the shape, can help manage airflow under the nose. It is usually the first aero part people add, and the most visible one.
A custom front lip is designed for one specific car from a 3D scan of its bumper, rather than made to roughly fit a whole model range. At C1 Studio, custom front lips start from $3,500 AUD including design and production.
Custom vs Universal Front Lips
Universal lips are flat or lightly shaped strips meant to fit many cars, and they rarely follow a bumper's curves. Model-specific catalogue lips are better, but they are designed to an average car and often need trimming and packing to sit right. A custom lip starts from your actual bumper, so the leading edge, end caps and mounting points are designed to your car.
How a Custom Front Lip Is Made
- 1. 3D scan: the front of the car is scanned to capture the real bumper surface and gaps.
- 2. CAD design: the lip is modelled directly on the scan.
- 3. Renders: you see it on your car and approve it or ask for changes.
- 4. Prototype: the fit and stance are proven on the car before tooling.
- 5. Mould and layup: a production mould is made and the lip is hand-laid in fibreglass.
- 6. Delivery: finished primer-ready and shipped.
Front Lip Styles
- OEM+: a subtle extension that looks factory.
- Splitter-style: a flatter, sharper leading edge with more presence.
- Period-correct reproduction: a rare or discontinued lip recreated from an original or reference photos.
Cost and Lead Time
Custom front lips start from $3,500 AUD, covering the 3D scan, CAD design, renders and production of the finished fibreglass part. Individual custom parts typically take 4–8 weeks from approved design. Complex shapes and reproductions are quoted individually.
Fitting and Paint
Lips arrive primer-ready and need prep and paint by a panel shop before fitting. Our guide to preparing fibreglass parts for paint covers what your painter will do.
